On Monday 21st May Wakefield CC welcomed members of Pontefract CC and Normanton CC to Brookhouse as it was Wakefield’s turn to host the annual 3 Clubs Inter Club Trophy. Wakefield came into the evening as current holders of the trophy, and were keen to end the night retaining the trophy for a third year running, but with prints in short supply due to the YPU competition, the selection box was in short supply so a tough night was in store.
Our Judge for the evening would be Richard Hall from Sheffield, who despite only becoming a recent Judge, delivered an excellent appraisal of the images, praising the authors for not just the photography on offer, but also the printing techniques, media used and the quality of the mounting – After all this was a Print competition!!
Wakefield were first up with a recent internal club winner, which rightly received praise from the judge and was held back – a great start to the evening! Richard went on to provide excellent commentary on the next 17 images to end the first round with Wakefield slightly ahead of Pontefract and Normanton.
As a slight alteration to the evenings interval, a raffle was held rather than the usual pay on the door system, with many of WCC members picking up a couple of prizes each.
After the break, Richard continued to provide a great critique of the remaining images, it was hard to believe he had not been doing this for years! Wakefield had a couple of stumbles with images but also had a good number in the held back section, so it was looking promising. in the end however, there could be only one winner and after the checking of scores all 3 club representatives had the confirmed the results
Normanton finished in 3rd place with 188 points and Pontefract finished in 2nd Place with 207 Points.
Which meant that despite some stiff opposition Wakefield came first, retaining the trophy for the Third year in a row with a score of 214 Points. Not only did Wakefield finish first, our own Peter Wells took home the trophy for Best Print with his image of the Lubber Grasshopper.
Well done to Peter and all those that submitted Images. – Well Done Wakefield!!
