Welcome to Wakefield Camera Club. We are a long-established, thriving and friendly club, meeting most weeks. Meetings are always open to non-members so if you’re interested in photography why not come along. Details of the next meeting are below the images.
2019 Clubman Competition – Round 1 Black & White – Winners
Our next meeting is on Monday 1st April – “After the Coal Dust” – with John and Bridget Gill – “After the Coal Dust” is a series of photographs taken by Castleford couple John and Bridget Gill together with their daughter Freya. The idea was to provide a dispassionate look at what comes after the closure of an area’s main industry and focal point Although these images are taken in the local “coal towns” they are equally relevant to many areas of a post-industrial Britain as other traditional industries such as steel and textiles have seen a similar decline. These photographs put a face to some of the people in these areas. Whilst looking primarily at the people in the local community the After the Coal Dust project also features a series of images of a 90 year old former Bevin Boy Elliott Sheard of Pudsey. Photographs from After The Coal Dust have been exhibited at The Great Yorkshire Show, The National Mining Museum for England and The Bradford Industrial Museum.
