On Monday 14th September there was the latest in the series of Novice Digital and A4 Print Competitions. At the last such competition experienced members of the club gave positive critiques of each of the entries, without knowing who they were by. The idea was to try and provide feedback/guidance so members could improve their photography skills. After that evening members thought it was very successful so the same format was used again. Both images and A4 prints were anonymously appraised in front of the meetings and the comments were very well received. After the critiques everyone could get up and examine all the entries at close quarters and decide on their top 3 in digital and top 3 in prints. The votes were counted and this evening the results were dominated by just two members. Hearty congratulations to Sarah Hargreaves for taking first place in both print and digital. Not only that but she rounded off her evening with second in the digital as well. Tony Machin took all the rest with second and third in the print and third in the digital. Overall the number of entries was slightly up on the last Novice Competition so hopefully the trend will continue as novices gain more confidence.
After the break the evening was rounded off with a video of images from the GB cup competition. Wakefield Camera Club entered the GB cup but not in the section seen last night, which was Nature. There are 6 sections in this competition and a large number of clubs from all over the country enter, so the standard is very high. It was an excellent show of wonderful images which provided everyone with some ideas of the standard we would all like to achieve. Comments from members at the end of the evening were all positive with everyone looking forward to see other sections of the GB cup in the future.
