The evening of Monday 18th March saw two representatives from the Yorkshire Monochrome group visit the club to show their work. It is always interesting to see what other clubs do and even more so when it is a “specialist” club. The Yorkshire Monochrome Group as their name suggests just focus in on the world of black and white which even now has the capacity to provide very striking images,
As our President, Steve Wood, remarked they had brought a veritable mountain of prints to show us. First on was Larry who showed a sequence of prints from the days of film and it was interesting to try and work out if the images were better or worse than those produced digitally nowadays. Larry kept up a running commentary and the subjects were very varied but Larry presented quite a lot of portraits in the mix. Second up was Paul. His subjects were just as varied and he spoke about how and where he had taken the shots. His commentary was informative and quite humorous. Finally Larry returned with a set of prints from his digital images to round the evening off.
Despite the fact that virtually everything was in black and white, the wide variety of subjects and treatments shown in the prints maintained the interest. Between each section there was plenty of opportunity to view the prints up close and chat to Larry and Paul about them.
It was an interesting evening which gave plenty of food for thought for members and could encourage more into the use of monochrome.
